Borussia Dortmund defender Socratis Papastathopoulos is reportedly expected to join Arsenal this summer.
Following Arsene Wenger’s depature from the club, Arsenal are currently without a manager, but that will not stop them from signing Socratis from Dortmund for 20 million euros this summer.
Socratis has been rumored to join the London outfits for quite a time now and the player certainly fits the requirements to fill in at Arsenal’s back line.
Dortmund have a reputation of being a selling club over the past years. Socratis will join a host of players to leave the German club for the English Premier League. And he will also be welcomed by former Dortmund teammates, Aubamayang and Mkhityran, in London.
Whilst the Gunners are expected to sign Mikel Arteta as their new manager, for now and when the Spaniard takes charge, it is Sven Mislintat who is in charge of transfers.
The Gunners are thought to be edging out other European rivals with the help of new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.
The ex-Dortmund chief has close ties with Papastathopoulos’ agent Konstantinos Farras, according to Bild.
It is understood Arsenal are looking to bring in at least three new first-team players this summer.
A goalkeeper, centre-back and central midfielder are the prime targets, as the Gunners rebuild again.
With Laurent Koscielny out injured and Per Metersacker retired, the Gunners are left with an unstable defense of Shkrodran Mustafi, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers and 20-year-old Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Arsenal are also looking to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli this summer as well.
