Spain Hires New Coach Ahead Of World Cup

Published

Following the sacking of Julen Lopetegui as the Spanish national team’s head coach earlier today, Spain have now named former captain, Fernando Hierro, as their new coach ahead of their opening World Cup game against Portugal on Friday.

The 50-year-old was assistant to Lepetegui, who was sacked earlier this morning after taking the Madrid job.

The Spanish FA were furious with the decision of Lopetegui, and wanted to sack him yesterday yet the players protested – however a decision was quickly made and a presser called for earlier today, with the new Real Madrid boss now waiting for the season to start and facing a summer out of work.

Albert Celades will be Hierro’s assistant in Russia.
