At least six persons have been confirmed dead in a renewed clash between community youths in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The victims were killed at different spots in the area bringing the total number of those killed in the renewed crises to about ten in the last two weeks.
It was gathered that the incident took place in the early hours of Monday around Dumoruogbo, Dumurieh, Orumaroh and Jakpa Junction area of Effurun.
The area had been under serious tension since last two weeks following disagreements between some supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress. But it later escalated into clashes between cultists and community leaders in the area, report says.
According to an anonymous source, three of the victims were shot dead in their homes while the remaining three were stabbed and cut with an axe to death by yet to be identified youths in the area.
To this end, soldiers and mobile policemen have been deployed in the area to help restore normalcy.
Confirming the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Aniamaka, claimed five persons were killed in the clash and debunked claims that security operatives were involved in the killings.
