Senator Fadahunsi slams FG over fire incidents in Osun

Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi has accused the Federal Government of failing to empower fire service outfits in Nigeria against disaster.

He emphasised the need to make the service more proactive and well equipped for preventing avoidable disasters with attendant wanton destruction of properties and lives.

This was made known in a press statement sent to DAILY POST and signed by his media adviser, Sam Segun-Progress.

The lawmaker was reacting to the recent fire disaster at Oja tuntun in Ile Ife, Osun State, adding that despite the past experiences in the same market, the government is yet to put measures in place to prevent avoidable disaster.

“Why should traders in this market go through this agonising pain annually? Are there no people saddled with the responsibility of taking care of this market? Is there no arm of government generating revenue from this market, how is it difficult to put preventive measures in place”, he lamented.

He then called on the Federal government to equip the disaster management agencies as he enjoined citizens to be more vigilant.

Fadahunsi, also implored the government in the state to come to the aid of the affected traders and put mechanisms in place to avert future occurrences.
