A human rights activist in Warri, Delta State, Comrade Israel Joe on Monday said it is only Courts set up by the State Government that has the powers to punish any citizen who disobeys the stay at home order and not the Air Force.
Joe made the assertion in a statement made available to DAILY POST in Warri.
The rights activist was reacting to alleged rights abuses of some citizens by officers and men of the AirForce from the 61 Detachment in Osubi.
He said the AirForce Officers and men who were enforcing the lockdown order at PTI Junction in Effurun recently, allegedly subjected women and children to frog jumps.
According to him, “Punishing women and children with the frog jump in broad daylight can lead to certain confrontation if not properly checked.
“The AirForce should be aware that there is no law known to us that grants them the license to brutalize citizens in a democratic dispensation like ours.
” The already tensed Warri environment should not be troubled by the military. Should another citizen fall by the bullet of the military, it may create a bad signal and destabilize the peace efforts of the Delta State Government.”
