A family court in Akure, Ondo State has sentenced Oladapo Akinyodoye, 35 year old man to five years imprisonment for sexually abusing a 16 year old girl. According to the prosecution, the convict has been sexually abusing the girl since 2014.
It was gathered that the 16 year old lived with the convict’s family as a maid. The convict was said to have been abusing the girl since she arrived in the house. The abuse was said to have resulted into pregnancy which was aborted with the help of a doctor.
The operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps arrested the convict and arraigned him before the family court where he was sentenced to five years imprisonment.
According to the NSCDC, the offence contravened sections 32 and 516 of the Ondo State Child Rights Law 2007. The prosecutor, Mr. Ebriku David, called three witnesses, including the victim, who gave evidences in court.
The magistrate ruled that the court found the defendant guilty of violating the rights of the minor as prescribed in Section 32(1) of the Ondo State Child Rights Law 2007 and convicted him accordingly to five years’ imprisonment without an option of fine.
She also ordered that the medical doctor, one Dr. Abiodun Ekundayo, who assisted the convict to abort the victim’s pregnancy, should be charged for the offence.
