A final year student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Chukwuemeka Akachi, has committed suicide.
Akachi, a native of Eha-Alumona in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu had stated on Facebook that he was battling dementia for over two months.
It was learnt that following an earlier threat to take his own life, two lecturers had been asked by the university to monitor and counsel him.
The English and Literary Studies student, eventually died after drinking a poisonous substance.
An academic staff, who did not want his name in print, told newsmen that it was the second time Akachi would be attempting suicide.
The Facebook page of the deceased has this suicide note on it.
“Forgive me. In case you are the one who found the body. I am really sorry. It had to be someone, you know. I have chosen Jo Nketaih’s poem as my suicide note: ‘They said you came looking for me. I did not drown; I was the water.’ Where do atheists go to when they die? Lol. Amen.”
In one of his previous posts, he said his mental health condition had affected his growth.
“My mental health has been on life support for a while now. Thanks to those who call. Text. Visit. Speak to me. May we always remember. May we never forget. You may have added a few hours, months or days to my time here. But you know life support is expensive, right? Thanks for trying. Amen,” he stated.
