COVID-19: South Africa, Algeria, Egypt top list as Africa death toll hits 666

The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa has said that there are 12,700 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the continent, with 666 deaths.
The update was issued on its official Twitter account on Saturday morning.
South Africa, Algeria, and Egypt have continued to top the list of countries with the highest reported cases.
South Africa has 2,003 cases and 24 deaths, Algeria has 1,761 cases with 256 deaths, while Egypt has 1,699 confirmed cases with 118 deaths.
WHO added that Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria has 305 cases and 7 deaths.
The countries with the lowest confirmed cases are South Sudan and Burundi, which have reported only three cases each.
“#COVID19 cases in Africa rise to over 12,700 – with 2,050 recoveries & 666 associated deaths reported,” WHO tweeted.
DAILY POST recalls that Africa had on Friday recorded 11,900 COVID-19 cases and 608 deaths.
