COVID-19: Lagos lawmaker bans visitors

A member of Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ifako Ijaye Constituency I, Hon. Temitope Adewale has said he would no longer receive visitors.

Following the death of one of its members, Hon. Tunde Braimoh who reportedly died of Covid-19 last Friday, all other members of the Lagos House of Assembly were directed to go for Covid-19 test.

Adewale, who received his result yesterday, said though he tested negative, he would not receive any visitor, urging Lagos residents to always observe measures against contracting coronavirus, emphasising that the virus is real.

In a statement he personally signed, the lawmaker advised Lagosians to comply with the hygiene practices stipulated by the state government and the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control ( NCDC), saying it is a collective responsibility of everyone to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

Adewale, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, said there is a need to fight the pandemic, which is beyond keeping safe, adding that it is necessary for everybody to know their status.

“As directed by the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly, on Sunday, 12th of July, 2020; I went and submitted myself for the COVID-19 test and I have gotten my result. The test result came out negative.

“To this end, it is our collective responsibility to be more careful and observe all the stipulated and given rules to help us prevent the transmission of this deadly Virus. Wash your hands for 30 seconds regularly, avoid social gatherings, maintain social distance and at all times, wear a face mask, the use of hand sanitizers should become a habit and finally, avoid touching your face and nose.

“I thank the great people of Ifako Ijaiye 01 for their love, support and care and I wish to state that I won’t be receiving any visitors for now.

“I thank the Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy Obafemi Hamzat For proactively and tirelessly fighting this pandemic and I pray we won’t be part of its destruction,” he said.
