The global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 100,000.
Johns Hopkins University released the figure on Friday.
There are nearly 1.7 million cases with more than 370,000 recoveries.
It corroborates that of worldometer, a renowned data website.
Ten countries account for more than 85,000 deaths.
They are China, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States.
Incidentally, the first COVID-19 death was recorded exactly four months ago.
On January 11, China announced that the virus killed a 61-year-old man who had purchased goods from the seafood market.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) says there are about 600 deaths in Africa.
Cases in Nigeria could hit 300 as the federal government ponders an extension of the lockdown imposed on Lagos, the country’s commercial nerve centre.
