The National Stadium, Lagos will today be hosting the fourth window of the China 2019 FIBA Men’s World Cup qualifiers.
D’Tigers will play their first match against Ivory Coast.
Nigeria, Mali, Rwanda, Senegal, Ivory Coast and the Central African Republic will battle for points in Group F.
D’Tigers players, who spoke with newsmen, said they would ensure that the World Cup qualification is secured.
“We are a force in Africa and we are not scared of any opposition. Our focus is the World Cup ticket.
“This is my first time of playing in Lagos and I am looking forward to home support. I want the fans to bring their energy and cheer us to victory”, said Real Zaragoza forward Stanley Okoye.
Similarly, Ikechukwu Ireogbu, whose team finished second at the 2017 AfroBasket in Tunisia, said, “Right now, we are very focused on what we have to do – which is top play together as a team and ensure Nigeria qualifies for the World Cup.
“At this stage, every team is a contender but we are ready to face our opponents irrespective of who they are coming with – and deliver the goods to our fans. I have met a lot of Nigerian fans already on the social media and I want them to come out and support us as we strive to give our best.”
