A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, has defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ogunwuyi, who represents Ogbomosho North/South/Orire federal constituency of Oyo state, declared that he defected to the ruling party because of the internal divisions within the Labour party.
Ogunwuyi’s defection was announced by the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Yusuf Lasun, who presided over Thursday’s plenary session.
The last defection, according to the Cable, was in January when Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin left the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC.
One of the criteria for an elected official to defect to another party, according to the 1999 constitution (as amended) is that there must be an internal crisis within the politician’s former party.
