COVID-19: WHO releases latest list of African countries with highest cases

The World Health Organization, WHO, Regional Office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, has said that the number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Africa has risen to over 69,000 in the past 24 hours.

The UN health agency gave the update on its official Twitter account on Wednesday.

According to the tweet, COVID-19 has killed 2,300 people in the continent, while more than 23,000 patients have recovered.

“Over 69,000 confirmed #COVID19 cases on the African continent – with more than 23,000 recoveries & 2,300 associated deaths,” it said.

The WHO African Region COVID-19 dashboard showed that South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Ghana, and Nigeria have continued to top the list of countries with the highest reported coronavirus cases.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced that another 146 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the last 24 hours, bringing to 4,787 the number of confirmed cases and 158 deaths in the country as of Tuesday night.
