Publisher of Ovation Magazine and renowned journalist, Dele Momodu, has expressed surprise over the turnout of Nigerians who attended a rally organised by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa state on Monday.

The publisher cum politician who expressed his view via Twitter, wrote that it was surprising that the rally of the major opposition party could attract such a mammoth crowd, despite being dismissed at the election polls three years ago.

Momodu, who published videos and pictures to buttress his point, noted that the “blistering” rally was an intense attempt by the PDP to capture power at the state and national level at the 2019 elections.

He attributed the huge presence at the rally to the political might of the former Governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, whom he described as a “grassroots politician.”

“Jigawa State on lockdown for PDP rally, Lord have mercy, the same party we sacked exactly three years ago!!!,” he wrote via his twitter handle, @DeleMomodu.

“Barely three years after we sacked PDP, we saw a palpable attempt to fight back yesterday at a blistering PDP rally in Jigawa State… Jigawa is the state of grassroots politician, ALHAJI SULE LAMIDO, former Foreign Minister and a protege of former PRESIDENT OLUSEGUN OBASANJO…”

Apart from winning the presidential election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, also won the governorship election in Jigawa state and was subsequently sworn-in as Governor of the state.
