Ambode ‘Cleverly Dodging’ Rev. King’s Death Sentence – Fawehinmi

Barr. Mohammed Fawehinmi

Barrister Mohammed Fawehinmi, son of the late human rights lawyer and activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi has accused Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of ‘cleverly dodging’ the death sentence passed on General-Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, Rev. Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, popularly known as ‘Reverend King’, by the Supreme Court.

Speaking in a recent chat with Greennews’ Political Ralph, the legal practitioner stated that nothing had been done on the matter despite his letter to the Governor and Lagos State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

The Supreme Court had in February 2016 affirmed both the judgments of the trial court and the appeal court which convicted and sentenced Ezeugo to death by hanging for the murder of his church member, Ann Uzoh on January 17, 2007.

Meanwhile, the State Government was yet to sign Rev. King’s execution papers as at the time of filing this report.

Reacting to State Government’s delay in signing King’s execution paper, Fawehinmi said: “What rubbish anti-corruption? I will give you an example, the Supreme Court ruled that Rev. King should be hanged. Up till today, Ambode is dodging it cleverly. He doesn’t want to execute that Supreme Court judgment.

“I wrote to him, I wrote to the Lagos State House of Assembly that what is going on. And now you are telling us that there is more kidnapping in the land. Why won’t there be when you cannot show that in Lagos kidnapping is zero-tolerance.

“If you hang Rev. King as the Court dictates, that will be justice for the family of the Girl that was burnt alive because she allegedly had evil spirit in her”.
